Emigrant Wilderness, CA sits on top of Yosemite National Park like a hat. It is a truly beautiful gem in the Sierra Nevada.
This trip is from a few years ago. I made this loop over July 4 weekend and saw NO ONE for four days! Not a soul, except for about a billion little mosquito souls…..but they don’t count…and I have no problem squashing the little life out of as many as possible…but I digress
There is great history in this region. (Not to mention my own history of breaking my ankle miles from the trailhead when coming off of Granite Dome). But lots of emigrant history here: north of this trail there are original wagon wheel markings left in the granite, and Burst rock is actually a corruption from the original name “Birth Rock” where an emigrant gave birth to a little boy. I have enjoyed this region for almost two decades.
